InBa 2026 Bharatanatyam Residency - Basel

Continuing the Journey: Practice, Pedagogy & Relevance

The life of a dancer is often a solitary pursuit — sustained by discipline, introspection, and faith in the art. This residency creates a shared space for artists to reflect, learn, and grow together. Through dialogue and practice, participants will explore how to teach, practice, remain relevant, and continue forward with clarity and resilience.

Music Appreciation
Understanding structure, rhythm, sahitya, and musicality as the foundation of expressive dancing.

Self-Practice
Developing intelligent practice methods — how to practice without supervision, maintain body memory, and sustain artistry beyond the classroom.

Choreography & Interpretation
Approaching repertoire with thoughtfulness, context, and individuality while respecting tradition.

Residency Format

The residency will be immersive and collaborative:

• Daily practice sessions
• Lecture demonstrations
• Interactive discussions on pedagogy
• Guided reflective exercises
• Sharing circles among participants

 Sharing Performance

Each participant will present a 30-minute in-house performance at the residency. This is intended to initiate reflection on one’s own repertoire and to share the joy of presenting a personal solo concert in a supportive artistic environment.

This is not merely a workshop — it is a collective thinking space for artists navigating the long and often solitary path of classical dance.

Participation is on Invitation, but if you are interested please write to indiraperformingarts@gmail.com
